creating an ai tax guide
CustomGPT and Gemini Gems are GenAI models that users create by providing instructions and knowledge documents. This allows the model to generate responses with added context, anticipating the type of answer you need even before you enter a prompt.
In this post, I have created the start of the tax guide using Gemini Gems (this does work in Custom GPTs too). I have supplied the GPT with some instructions, alongside the HMRC Personal Tax Manual for the Gemini Gem to use as a built in reference point.
Here are the instructions I gave to the Gem:
To test the Gem, I then asked a tax questions around dividends. The model first asks some additional questions, as instructed, then provides a calculation for the tax due on the dividends. I then ask the model to scan the guide supplied, and get a detailed response to all the various personal tax areas that may be affected by the dividends (I’ve only shown part of the response for this below)
You can see in the last part of the response, the Custom Gem refers to the parts of the guide in the knowledge section, making it very easy for the user to refer back to the guide to sense check the advice given.
You can expand this Custom Gem, or GPT to include more complex instructions, and add further tax guides such as CGT, Business Tax, VAT to create a comprehensive tax reference solutions.
